Codex Alera*     See series as if on a bookshelf
A series of novels by Jim Butcher.  To my understanding - supposedly these books sprang from a debate over what was better in a story, great character development or a unique story idea.  Jim Butcher asked for two known story ideas and he said he would make an interesting story out of them using character development.

1) Furies of Calderon
2) Academ's Fury
3) Cursor's Fury
4) Captain's Fury
5) Princep's Fury
6) First Lord's Fury
For our own Knights and legionaires,
the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
If you didn't do what you do, I couldn't do what I do. Thank you.
The steadholt was located several miles south of the ruined wasteland that had once been Alera Imperia, and it was an old one.

She looked up at him, her warm green eyes merry as she rolled them, and said, as though mouthing a curse "Alerans."

In the acclaimed Codex Alera novels, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Dresden Files, Jim Butcher, has created a world of "epic fantasy in the best way, inspired by Tolkien."*  Now the people of Alera - who use their unique bond with the elementals of earth, air, fire, water, wood, and metal for protection - must face the ultimate conflict…

For Gaius Octavian, life has been one long struggle. Battling ancient foes, forging new alliances, and confronting the corruption within his own land, he became a legendary man of war and leader of men - and the rightful First Lord of Alera.

Now, the end of all he fought for is close at hand. The brutal, dreaded vord are on the march, using fear and chaos to turn the Alerans against one another, and forcing those who will not submit to flee to the outer reaches of the Realm.

Perhaps for the final time, Gaius Octavian and his Legions must stand against the enemies of his people.  And it will take all his intelligence, ingenuity, and furycraft to save their world from eternal darkness...

"An entertaining and great super finish to the Codex Alera." - Genre Go Round Reviews

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
